This sweet flamingo was a fun challenge for me! I used a limited palette to help bring her to life, with enough orange glow to make her shine. This original drawing is smaller than my usual - it's 5" x 7" but I maximized the available space.
I use the highest quality professional art materials. To get those smooth colors, I used Faber-Castel Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils. These pencils are oil-based. I also lightly dusted the background with a pale blue pastel.
The paper is Strathmore Bristol Vellum, which is a thick paper (300g) with a good texture which allows me to place many layers of pigment on.
In order to get a painting-effect, I use 6-11 layers of pigments which smooth into a glossy effect once all the tooth of the paper is covered. Most of my drawings of this size take me 6-10 hours to complete.
